What about having the steering committee appoint a GWIC representative, but getting away from the idea that the person has to START as a steering committee member?  I propose this, since in theory the chairs might be a bit busy to want to take on the GWIC responsibility, but I could see a former chair, or someone wanting to become a chair as a GWIC appointee.  I would then propose that the GWIC representative has a seat on the steering committee by virtue of being the GWIC representative.

This means the steering committee consists of:  Chairs and co-chairs and the GWIC representative.

Some committees also give past chairs committee membership for a time period of a year in order to create more continuity, but whether or not that is necessary or desirable for our situation is questionable.

I think the discussion was that a board would be sensible to create at a later time when we have more members. This board would have representatives from various collaborations and be separate from the steering committee. I agree that focusing on getting our working groups to be representative of the different gravity communities is a good start for now.

I like the idea that our GWIC representative would be one of the steering committee co-chairs.

Hi Amber,

thanks for this message. I've added the contact of the new cohair of the DEI WG in the google document you linked. I am fine with your proposal. I recall a past discussion of ours about having representatives of collaborations/institutions in the steering committee but not sure this is really feasible as IGrav is still just a few people. We should rather put an effort to have the WG chairs representing different communities, maybe this can suffice also to represent collaborations. To this goal I am very happy that the new DEI co-chair belongs to Indian PTA, adding some variance wrt our LVK dominated committee.

Regarding the IGrav representative at GWIC: we've recently appointed Isa for this and she is now cochair of the Steering Comm. Shall we decide that the representative at GWIC is one of the Steering Comm chairs? I would be in favor of this option.

A couple of items I wanted to follow up on. First, we announced that Chris and Isa are our new Steering Committee chairs. Thank you both for your willingness to serve in this role. This connects to a second item we agreed we needed to finalize: who should be on the steering committee? At the meeting, the consensus was that it should include all working group chairs at a minimum. However, we decided we should discuss further if others are not working group chairs but should still be a part of the steering committee. For example, our GWIC representative. They were elected from the steering committee, so in theory, they should be a group lead, but that may not always be the case. What are folks' thoughts? In addition to working group leads, steering committee co-chairs, and the GWIC representative, should other positions be on the steering committee? Once we finalize, I will clean up the mailing list removing folks and adding new ones. Below is our current list of committee members. Those in red would be removed under our current definition of the committee.
